Oppidan Investment Company, a leading US real estate firm, has embarked on a significant project that promises to reshape the local landscape in Eagan, Minnesota. The construction of a sprawling 61,000-square-foot data center on Argenta Trail is already underway, with the completion date set for 2026. This endeavor not only represents a physical expansion but also reflects the company’s strategic investment in the region’s infrastructure. By acting as both landlord and financial pillar, Oppidan collaborates with an undisclosed tenant to bring this build-to-suit facility to fruition. The project, approved earlier this year, was filed late last year. It underscores Oppidan’s ongoing commitment to fortifying local economies by providing substantial tax contributions and creating skilled job opportunities for the surrounding community. Located on previously undeveloped land at 550 Opperman Drive, a site once belonging to the YMCA, the facility is set to deliver a robust 5MW of power.
Strategic Collaborations and Expertise
The success of this ambitious project in Eagan is bolstered through strategic partnerships with key local players. The City of Eagan, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), and Dakota County are leading the efforts on the ground. Meanwhile, entities such as Greater MSP, the Dakota Electric Association, and Great River Energy bring critical support on multiple levels. Experienced in construction and engineering, Gardner Builders takes on the general contractor role, supported by ERA Associates, Stantec, Salas O’Brien, and States Manufacturing as structural engineer, civil engineer, architect, and electric equipment supplier, respectively. These collaborations ensure the project’s smooth execution and alignment with state and community objectives. Beyond Minnesota, Oppidan’s impact is nationwide, having specialized in data center constructions since 2016 for top clients like Oracle and Bell Canada, with locations from Memphis, Tennessee to California and most recently Santa Clara. Oppidan’s Connect Data Centers arm has delivered over 650MW and 2.28 million square feet in data center capacity, with more developments underway, showcasing their commitment to enhancing technological infrastructure.
