EdgeCore, a prominent provider of state-of-the-art data center facilities, is making significant strides in expanding its data center footprint in the United States. The company announced recently that it has embarked on construction for a massive 114MW data center campus in Ashburn, Virginia, while concurrently topping out the 450MW PH03 facility at its Mesa, Arizona campus. These expansions are part of EdgeCore’s robust growth strategy, aimed at meeting the escalating demand for data storage and processing capabilities.

Expansion in Virginia

New Data Center Campus in Ashburn

EdgeCore’s ambitious expansion plans in Virginia involve the construction of a new data center campus encompassing two large facilities, AS01 and AS02. These facilities are strategically located between Maries Road and Moran Road. The total development promises to provide a whopping 114MW across 608,000 square feet. The facility on Maries Road anticipates delivering around 72MW, while the Moran Road site aims for a total output of 42MW once fully operational. Designed for completion by 2026, the new campus will cater to increasing data demands by offering scalable, high-powered infrastructure solutions.

In addition to the Maries Road and Moran Road sites, EdgeCore has plans for further development in the area. This includes a data center on Horseshoe Drive, which is in close proximity to the Maries Road location, as well as a broader four-building project named EdgeCore Dulles in Sterling. This series of developments places EdgeCore in a position to support intensive data workloads and cater to the needs of data-centric enterprises and service providers in the region.

Strategic Location and Industry Trends

The choice of Ashburn, Virginia, as a primary site for their new data centers isn’t arbitrary. Often referred to as “Data Center Alley,” Ashburn hosts some of the world’s foremost data center clusters. This strategic location ensures robust connectivity with key networks and offers unparalleled access to essential utilities. As the industry witnesses exponential growth in data generation and processing, EdgeCore’s decision to expand in Ashburn aligns perfectly with these broader trends. This expansion is expected to bolster regional economic growth through job creation and technological innovation.

Growth in Arizona

PH03 Facility in Mesa

In the southwestern state of Arizona, EdgeCore has marked another milestone by topping out its PH03 facility at the company’s expansive 450MW campus in Mesa. This new addition exemplifies EdgeCore’s commitment to scaling its infrastructure capabilities. The PH03 facility alone will provide 72MW across a sprawling 606,388 square feet. This expansion continues the trajectory set by the earlier PH01 and PH02 buildings, which already offer substantial capacities. In December, the second building, boasting 108MW over 868,431 square feet, was also topped out, demonstrating rapid construction and scaling capabilities.

Notably, the initial PH01 facility completed back in 2018 provides 26MW within a manageable 200,880 square feet. These combined efforts and developments ensure that the Mesa campus remains a crucial node in EdgeCore’s network, capable of supporting massive data workloads and offering significant redundancies and capabilities for high-density applications.

Broader Strategic Impact

EdgeCore’s expansions in Mesa are indicative of a larger strategic vision. Arizona presents an attractive environment for data centers due to its relatively low natural disaster risk, favorable climate, and utility costs. EdgeCore’s significant investments in this region underscore the acknowledgment of these factors as essential components of their expansion strategy. These infrastructural enhancements will position EdgeCore to capture market share within the region and offer much-needed solutions to enterprises seeking robust, scalable, and reliable data center services.

Ongoing and Future Expansions

Expanding Campus Footprint and Strategic Growth

Since its inception in 2018, EdgeCore has been on an expansion spree, growing to nine campuses across the United States, including prominent locations like Phoenix, Arizona, Virginia, Reno, and Silicon Valley. Their strategic approach has been further empowered under the new ownership of Partners Group, which has committed a whopping $1.2 billion for acquisitions and expansion efforts. Beyond the national landscape, EdgeCore is also setting its sights on the international market, with plans for a data center in Berkshire, UK.

These expansions and developments highlight EdgeCore’s adaptability and keen understanding of market needs. By focusing on high-demand areas and leveraging substantial financial backing, EdgeCore is positioning itself as a leader in the data center industry. The continuous investments in top-tier infrastructure substantiate its commitment to staying ahead in the rapidly evolving tech ecosystem, ensuring robust service delivery to clients worldwide.

Future Considerations and Market Influence

EdgeCore, a leading provider of top-tier data center facilities, is making notable progress in expanding its presence in the United States. Recently, the company announced that construction is underway for a substantial 114MW data center campus in Ashburn, Virginia. At the same time, EdgeCore is in the final stages of its massive 450MW PH03 facility located in Mesa, Arizona. These ambitious projects form a key part of EdgeCore’s aggressive growth strategy, which is designed to address the growing demand for data storage and processing capabilities. This expansion reflects the company’s commitment to staying at the forefront of the industry by providing cutting-edge infrastructure. EdgeCore’s significant investment in these data centers underscores its dedication to meeting the needs of its clients, who require robust and scalable solutions to handle the ever-increasing volumes of data generated in today’s digital landscape. By doubling down on its infrastructure, EdgeCore aims to ensure it remains a competitive player in the rapidly evolving data center market.
