This means security has to evolve from a simple “block list” mentality to a more sophisticated, behavioral approach. We can no longer just ask, “Is this sender trustworthy?” We have to ask, “Does this behavior make sense?” Why is a workflow automation tool sending an email that leads to a third-party login page? Defense strategies must analyze the entire attack chain and recognize that trust is now conditional and contextual, not absolute.

The success of this Google-based campaign guarantees that we will see attackers systematically probing other cloud platforms and services for similar workflow features to exploit. They will weaponize everything from automated form builders to cloud-based document editors. The central battleground for cybersecurity will shift.
