Nokia and Claro Achieve Rapid 5G Expansion with 1,000 Sites in Colombia

In an impressive stride towards digital transformation, Nokia and Claro have successfully completed the initial phase of Colombia’s largest 5G deployment, marking a significant achievement with the establishment of 1,000 5G sites across the country. This milestone was reached a mere four months after acquiring the necessary 5G licenses. The swift rollout is set to enhance key industrial sectors such as transport, mining, energy, and oil and gas, demonstrating a robust advancement in Colombia’s digital landscape.

Nokia’s technological prowess is at the heart of this deployment, utilizing its comprehensive AirScale portfolio, which includes both indoor and outdoor solutions like base stations, high-capacity Massive MIMO antennas, and remote radio head (RRH) solutions. Additionally, Nokia’s advanced software solutions such as the fully automated 5G Core, Nokia Assurance Center, NetGuard Cybersecurity Dome, and NetGuard Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) play a crucial role in enhancing network decision-making, security, and threat response capabilities. This sophisticated suite of technologies ensures that the network operates seamlessly and securely.

Expansion Plans and Technological Backbone

Further bolstering this remarkable deployment, an additional 400 sites have been agreed upon, with the current infrastructure already providing 5G coverage in six major cities. The ambitious plans aim to extend this coverage to 14 more cities by the end of the year, thus ensuring that the benefits of 5G technology are distributed more widely across Colombia. At the core of this expansive project is Nokia’s IP Anyhaul solution, which supports mobile backhaul and fronthaul connectivity through FP5-based service routers and interconnect routers managed by the Network Services Platform (NSP).

Furthermore, Claro will deploy Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) for metro transport network connectivity, ensuring that the infrastructure remains robust and capable of handling the increased demand. This comprehensive approach to network management and expansion underscores the strategic planning and advanced technology driving Nokia and Claro’s collaboration. Each newly established site not only broadens 5G coverage but also significantly enhances the overall network performance and reliability.

Leadership Insights and Future Prospects

In a remarkable leap towards digital innovation, Nokia and Claro have completed the first phase of Colombia’s largest 5G deployment, successfully establishing 1,000 5G sites nationwide. This significant milestone was achieved just four months after obtaining the necessary 5G licenses, signifying a rapid rollout intended to enhance crucial industrial sectors such as transport, mining, energy, and oil and gas. This achievement marks a notable advancement in Colombia’s digital infrastructure.

Central to this deployment is Nokia’s cutting-edge technology, utilizing its comprehensive AirScale portfolio.
