Nokia and Chunghwa Telecom Extend Partnership to Modernize 5G in Taiwan

Nokia and Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) have entered into a one-year extension agreement aimed at modernizing CHT’s 5G network infrastructure across Taiwan’s central and southern regions. This strategic initiative is designed to enhance network performance, increase capacity, and boost energy efficiency, all while setting the groundwork for CHT’s evolution towards a 5G-Advanced network. The upgrades will involve deploying state-of-the-art solutions from Nokia’s advanced 5G AirScale portfolio, including baseband systems, Massive MIMO radios, and specific Remote Radio Head products such as the Habrok 32 and 64 variants. These improvements leverage Nokia’s cutting-edge ReefShark System-on-Chip technology, which ensures both high performance and notable energy efficiency.

Furthermore, the collaboration will feature Nokia’s AI-driven MantaRay solutions for superior network monitoring, management, and optimization. This involves the implementation of the MantaRay NM and MantaRay SON platforms, which are designed to streamline operations and enhance overall network efficiency. Nokia’s advanced Radio Access Network (RAN) software will introduce various features like deep sleep mode and MIMO muting, in addition to the MantaRay Energy solution, all aimed at achieving substantial energy savings and significantly reducing power consumption.
