Windows users have encountered a new challenge with the latest Windows 11 update, hindering them from installing the crucial Windows 11 24H2 version. This is another instance in a series of similar setbacks, but the solution this time is straightforward and easy to implement. According to reports by Windows Latest, the update has been causing color issues in games and certain applications, with Microsoft acknowledging that “the Windows 11 24H2 bug leads to incorrect game colors when utilizing the Auto HDR feature.”

To ensure users do not experience problems, Microsoft has imposed a compatibility hold on devices that have enabled Auto HDR. These devices will not be prompted to install Windows 11, version 24H2 through the Windows Update release channel until the issue is resolved. Disabling Auto HDR on your device is a simple fix to prevent this problem. Users can open the Start menu, go to Settings, navigate to System > Display, scroll down, and select Graphics to use the Default Settings control.

Step-by-Step Solution

For users aiming to address selective issues, it’s advised to disable Auto HDR on a per-game basis. Microsoft recommends avoiding manual updates to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or media creation tool until the problem is fully solved. By default, the Windows 11 24H2 update will remain hidden if Auto HDR is enabled.

Windows Latest points out that many users may not realize Auto HDR is turned on. To counter this, Microsoft has blocked the upgrade on PCs with Auto HDR and is working on a fix to be released soon. This proactive measure intends to prevent users from encountering unexpected problems post-update.
