In a groundbreaking move that emphasizes the rapid evolution of telecommunications technology, MasOrange has introduced Spain’s first 5G Advanced network in Seville. The launch represents a significant leap forward for the Spanish communications landscape, setting a precedent for what future networks might look like in this pivotal European nation. This strategic deployment aligns with Seville’s eCity project, an ambitious urban initiative aiming to enhance the city’s technological infrastructure. Utilizing an innovative blend of mid and low bands, including the 26 GHz spectrum and the 3.5 GHz band, MasOrange now holds the largest spectrum portfolio among local telecommunications operators. This sophisticated approach enables cutting-edge services such as network sensing and ‘5G New Calling,’ designed to offer unprecedented speeds and ultra-low latency, enriching the overall user experience.

Partnership and Technological Collaborations

Meinrad Spenger, the visionary CEO of MasOrange, emphasizes the critical role of collaboration, highlighting partnerships with the University of Seville and local businesses for pilot program implementation. These alliances are essential in demonstrating next-gen connectivity solutions that promise vastly improved customer experiences. By integrating Huawei’s advanced features, the network supports groundbreaking applications in IoT, drones, and key emergency services. The ‘5G New Calling’ initiative is poised to revolutionize communication, offering top-tier voice quality, embedding multimedia components, and prioritizing calls during emergencies. Simultaneously, the network’s foundation is being upgraded with Open RAN technology in collaboration with Ericsson, aiming for enhanced service flexibility and operational efficiency. Part of MasOrange’s ambitious plan involves investing 4 billion euros to boost 5G and fiber networks, alongside a joint endeavor with Vodafone Spain to create FiberCo, Europe’s largest fiber network. This marks a transformative chapter in Spain’s telecommunications landscape.
