Intel’s Budget Core 7 240H CPU Outperforms Higher Core-Count Models

In the ever-evolving landscape of mobile computing, Intel’s upcoming release of its budget-oriented 14th-generation Raptor Lake Refresh mobile chips has captured significant attention. Most notable among these is the Core 7 240H processor, which, according to benchmark results on Geekbench, has outperformed its higher core-count sibling, the Core 7 250H, in both single and multi-core performance assessments.

Intel Core 7 240H Processor Features

The Core 7 240H CPU will be an integral component of the Acer Nitro ANV15-52 gaming laptop, which also includes a discrete NVIDIA RTX 4050 laptop GPU. This processor boasts a unique configuration with two core clusters comprising six Performance cores and four Efficient cores. The base frequency stands at 2.5 GHz, with boost capabilities reaching up to 5.0 GHz. Additionally, it features 24 MB of L3 cache, identical to that of the Core 7 250H.

When put to the test, the Core 7 240H delivered scores of 2687/2689 in single-core and 13330/13279 in multi-core performance benchmarks. These impressive results outpaced the 14-core Core 7 250H, which scored 2415 in single-core and 13201 in multi-core tests. This remarkable performance also raised eyebrows by surpassing the desktop 10-core Core Ultra 5 225F processor from the Arrow Lake lineup, leading to potential reevaluations of the latter’s value.

Graphics Performance and Integration

Beyond its CPU prowess, the Core 7 240H includes an Intel Xe-based integrated GPU (iGPU) featuring 64 Compute Units or 8 Xe Cores, operating at a maximum clock speed of 1.5 GHz. In OpenCL tests, it achieved scores of 13362 and 13478 points. However, the true graphical powerhouse in this setup is the discrete RTX 4050 GPU, which delivered a significantly higher performance score of 84369 points, underscoring its advantage for gaming applications.

Upcoming Intel Releases and Market Positioning

In the rapidly changing world of mobile computing, Intel’s forthcoming release of its budget-friendly 14th-generation Raptor Lake Refresh mobile processors has generated a lot of interest. Particularly noteworthy is the Core 7 240H processor, which has drawn attention due to its impressive performance on benchmark tests. According to Geekbench results, the Core 7 240H has managed to surpass its higher core-count sibling, the Core 7 250H, in both single-core and multi-core performance evaluations. This is particularly surprising given that the Core 7 250H was expected to outperform, considering its higher core count. The Core 7 240H’s unexpected performance might be attributed to various optimizations and design improvements Intel has incorporated into this latest generation. As Intel continues to innovate, the Core 7 240H demonstrates that a higher core count doesn’t always equate to better performance, highlighting the importance of architectural efficiencies and advancements. The anticipation for Intel’s 14th-generation chips continues to build as more details emerge.
