Airtel has taken a significant leap in enhancing digital connectivity across India with its recent expansion of the 5G network to 140,000 villages. This underscores the company’s commitment to bridging the digital divide in rural areas, providing faster and more reliable internet access to millions. Airtel’s 4G network already covers 800,000 villages and all 7,900 towns in India, showcasing its extensive reach and infrastructure prowess. The latest expansion is further exemplified by the deployment of 1,700 new towers in Gujarat within seven months, extending coverage to approximately 5 million people in India’s fifth-largest state. The growth of Airtel’s network infrastructure is nothing short of remarkable. With around 324,500 towers nationwide as of June and a significant increase of over 40,000 towers from the previous year, the company has demonstrated its determination to meet the escalating demand for connectivity. The number of base stations has also risen by 11.1%, reaching nearly 947,377 units. The company is re-farming its mid-band spectrum, specifically focusing on the 1.8 GHz, 2.1 GHz, and 2.3 GHz bands, to enhance 5G performance. This re-farming will enable more efficient use of frequencies and improve overall network capabilities. Collaborations with renowned technology vendors like Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung have been fundamental to Airtel’s 5G rollout.
