Artificial intelligence has become a pivotal force in modern society, but with its rapid advancements, the need for ethical use has never been more paramount. This escalating importance is being addressed head-on by a unique initiative titled “AI for Responsible Leadership,” launched by ESSEC Business School in collaboration with Accenture. This initiative marks the 10th anniversary of the ESSEC Accenture Strategic Business Analytics Chair and aims to instill ethical and accountable AI usage among present and future leaders. The overarching goal is to enhance professional performance while addressing pressing economic, environmental, and societal challenges, underscoring the transformative potential of AI in leadership and decision-making roles.

The initiative has garnered support from a wide range of organizations, including the ESSEC Metalab for Data, Technology & Society and Accenture Research. This collaborative effort not only highlights the need for a multidisciplinary approach to AI leadership but also promotes the integration of various fields of expertise. Core components of the initiative include workshops, talks, and a unique ‘barometer’ intended to track AI implementation and its impact on leadership contexts. Furthermore, the initiative will host an annual Grand Prix to honor projects that exemplify forward-thinking exploration of AI and leadership. Such structured engagements aim to create a comprehensive framework for ethical AI use, effectively bridging gaps between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration and Support

Executive Director of the ESSEC Metalab, Abdelmounaim Derraz, has underscored the disruptive nature of technical subjects like AI in business schools, pointing out the critical role of collaboration between partner companies, researchers, students, and other stakeholders. This concerted effort not only encourages knowledge exchange but also fosters methodological development crucial for the evolving landscape of AI. By bringing diverse minds together, the initiative seeks to inspire innovative approaches to AI challenges, thus driving responsible and impactful AI use across various sectors.

Fabrice Marque, the founder of the initiative, placed great emphasis on the synergies developed with prominent partners such as Accenture, Accor, Dataiku, Engie, Eurofins, MSD, and Orange. These partnerships have been instrumental in evaluating and testing innovative solutions before their deployment, ensuring that the technologies are both effective and ethical. The overarching vision is to create an engaged ecosystem that revitalizes leadership thinking, decision-making, and actions in response to future challenges. By making AI a catalyst for performance, innovation, and responsibility, the initiative aims to navigate the complexities of modern technological advancement with a principled approach.

Enhancing Resources and Stakeholder Engagement

Aurélien Bouriot, Managing Director at Accenture and sponsor of the initiative, asserts that the broader ecosystem will greatly benefit from Accenture’s extensive resources, thereby enhancing opportunities for employee participation. By contributing its vast array of tools and expertise, Accenture not only supports the initiative but also fosters an environment where employees can actively engage with and contribute to ethical AI practices. This blend of corporate resources and academic insight aims to benefit all stakeholders involved, providing a balanced perspective on the multifaceted nature of AI implementation.

Laetitia Cailleteau, Managing Director at Accenture and leader of Responsible AI & Generative AI for Europe, stressed the critical necessity for future leaders to grasp the technical, ethical, and human facets of AI. This comprehensive understanding is vital for maximizing value creation and generating positive impacts for organizations and society as a whole. The initiative, therefore, is not merely about developing AI skills but ensuring these skills are applied responsibly. It seeks to cultivate leaders who can navigate the ethical complexities of AI, ensuring that technological advancements contribute positively to both business and societal contexts.

A Cohesive Narrative for Ethical AI

Artificial intelligence is increasingly influential in today’s world, but with its rapid progress, ethical usage has become crucial. Addressing this need, ESSEC Business School and Accenture have launched an initiative called “AI for Responsible Leadership.” This project commemorates the 10th anniversary of the ESSEC Accenture Strategic Business Analytics Chair and focuses on fostering ethical AI practices among current and future leaders. The goal is to enhance professional performance while tackling economic, environmental, and societal challenges, highlighting AI’s transformative potential in leadership and decision-making.

The initiative is supported by various organizations, including the ESSEC Metalab for Data, Technology & Society and Accenture Research. This collaboration emphasizes the necessity of a multidisciplinary approach to AI leadership, incorporating diverse expertise. Core elements include workshops, lectures, and a distinct ‘barometer’ to monitor AI implementation and its effects on leadership. Additionally, an annual Grand Prix will recognize projects that showcase innovative AI and leadership applications. These structured activities aim to develop a robust framework for ethical AI use, seamlessly blending theoretical knowledge with practical application.
